Successfully advanced to the final but failed without a medal
The National Esports Team at the 2022 Asian Games from the PUBG Mobile branch failed to bring home a medal after losing to three opposing countries in the final round. Using Peace of Elite mode, a modified game from the PUBG Mobile game, the Indonesian team only ranked 4th.
In the final event at the China Hangzhou Esports Center FOP Arena on Sunday (1/10) evening, the four participating countries, namely China, South Korea, and Taiwan, competed quickly to complete three sets.
The Indonesian national team achieved 53 minutes and 22.543 seconds from all three sets. During the first set, our team recorded a time of 13 minutes and 20.198 seconds; the next set lasted 12 minutes 35.005 seconds; then it took 13 minutes and 12.495 seconds on the third set.
The Chinese team was able to appear superior with a total time of 44 minutes and 36.943 seconds to earn the gold medal. The second-place winner was the South Korean team (50 minutes 5.039 seconds), and the Taiwan team was slightly ahead of Indonesia (51 minutes 4.145 seconds) and won the bronze medal.
According to Alan Raynold Kumaseh, the team captain, the defeat in the final round was due to an inappropriate strategy and not optimal preparation.
"Maybe there were several strategies that they kept so that our team was shocked. Of course, we also felt dissatisfied with the result because we lost," said Alan when interviewed after the final.
Alan added that the PUBG Mobile Indonesia national team preparation lasted three months. However, the training period lasted effectively for one month because of several tournaments they had to participate in.
The PUBG Mobile Indonesia team reached the final round after occupying the runner-up position in the semifinals of Group B with a time of 52 minutes 21.344 seconds. This result puts us one strip below the Chinese team at the top of the group with 50 minutes 16.760 seconds.
Meanwhile, in the previous qualifying round, the national team that joined Group D was able to record a total time of 52 minutes 59.981 seconds, and was in first place. Continuing to the round of 16, Indonesia, which recorded 54 minutes and 9.860 seconds, only lost to the Japanese team.
